Fresh facts have emerged that gun-wielding armed men who abducted Mr Segun Ọlatunji, Editor of FirstNews Online Newspaper may not after all be Army personnel.
There is strong suspicion that the particular security arm of government which masterminded the abduction of the popular journalist might be the country’s secret police.
The earlier speculation might have been because two of the stern-looking security men which effected the abduction, comprising about 10 men were wearing military camouflage, which officers of any of the nation’s military and paramilitary wear on some occasions. The rest were in mufti, according to sources.
As at 10am on Sunday morning, the whereabout of Mr Olatunji remains yet unknown since three days ago when the unknown gunmen stormed his River View Estate and residence in Iyana-Odo, Abule-Egba area of Lagos.
There are also disclosures that the security team that laid seige on the journalist’s estate spent three whole days mounting surveillance in the area all in an attempt to whisk Mr Olatunji away.
Wife of the abducted journalist, Mrs Abiodun Olatunji disclosed this much to Boiling Point during an in interview on telephone.
Mrs Olatunji who has been married to the journalist since eight years ago with two children, raised alarm, urging President Bola Tinubu to help unravel where exactly Mr Olatunji is being held in custody and reasons for his incarceration.
She disclosed that she was on her way to incident the matter at the Meiran Police Division following advice from concerned colleagues of her husband.
Sources around the Abule Ẹgba residence had disclosed that the battery of over 10 security officers first stormed the area around 1am last Wednesday night in a convoy of two Hilux van and three power bikes.
The officers were said to have eventually traced the wife of the journalist to her shop within the neighborhood on Friday afternoon, using her as a soft target to reach the husband whom they promptly pounced on, whisking him away to an unknown destination.
There are suspicions that Mr Olatuniji’s present ordeal might be in connection with an exclusive report he published on FirstNews Online in his capacity as Editor.
FirstNews Publisher, Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson has condemned the abduction and has also cried out that Mr Olatuniji’s whereabouts is yet unknown, urging the government to clear the air on the issue.
