Concerned stakeholders in Ogun East Senatorial Zone in Ogun State have voiced their opposition to the underground moves by the incumbent Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to contest for Senate in the 2027 election.
The Ijebu People’s stance against the Governor’s move to proceed straight to the National Assembly after the expiration of his term, according to them, is “unfair, unacceptable and tantamount to taking the people for a ride”.
Articulating the views of Akile Ijebu was a Youth Activist and Politician, Mrs Modupeola Olatunde who addressed newsmen in Ijebu-Ode on Wednesday.
Mrs Olatunde’s view is captured below:
“We the people of Ijebu-land are not unaware of the underground moves by the powers that be both in government and the Party to use technicality to rob Ogun East of good representation this time around.
“We as Ijebu people have values and our level of exposure is far above certain level. Ogun East Senatorial District is not a play thing. It is for top players who can adequately discuss issues on the floor of the National Assembly and advance the cause of the people.
“Real development is so dear to us in Ijebu-land. Nigerians are wiser now. The trend whereby former Governors in many States of the federation retire into the National Assembly to further their own business interest should be discouraged.”
Mrs Olatunde also stressed further: “Selfish interest and unbridled ambition of one man should not override the collective aspiration of the overwhelming interest of Ogun East people.
“We know all that is going on behind the scene. We in Akile ijebu will only lend our support to people we know that can represent our values and educational integrity.
“The youths and the people of akile ijebu should not be carried away by the deceitful character of certain people glamouring and grandstanding to replace our present Senator.
“Our future is more important than allowing someone to expand his business empire and live a flamboyant lifestyle at the detriment of our people. We really need to be critical in the choice of who represents us.
“We have rich culture and any attempt to introduce some personality of tainted past is not what we should celebrate or help to legalise. Our representative should be people with untainted past and with impeccable character and conduct.”
