The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command is increasingly sustaining the momentum in the combat against smuggling activities within its sphere of jurisdiction with unwavering commitment of gallant officials who daily record monumental seizures and interception of contrabands and illicit drugs.
The latest is the interception of a 2021 model Rolls Royce Ghost valued at N905 million, alongside other contrabands including thousands of bags of rice and parcels of cannabis, with a total duty paid value of N1.4 billion.
The seizures included a 2014 Mercedes Benz car worth N21.4 million, a 2018 Honda Accord valued at N32.2 million, 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice amounting to over seven truckloads, 1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa, and 105 used tyres.
In addition to the anti-smuggling operations, the Command generated a revenue of N45.05 million in July 2025, representing a 27.47 per cent increase compared to N35.3 million recorded in earlier.
The Customs Area Controller, Ogun 1 Command, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, made the disclosure during a press briefing at Idiroko on Thursday.
Otunla attributed the seizures to the Command’s firm commitment not to relent in combating the menace of smuggling, nor bow to the antics of recalcitrant economic saboteurs who undermine the nation’s economy and security.
Otunla disclosed that the illicit drugs seized were handed over to the Commander of the NDLEA, Idiroko Special Command, Ekundayo Williams, for further investigation and necessary action.
He warned smugglers to desist from the illegal trade, stressing that the command would remain vigilant and committed to its combat against smuggling activities within its jurisdiction.
Otunla warned: “No matter the sophistication of your tricks, our officers will continue to thwart your antics, and we shall bring the full weight of the law against you.”
The Comptroller appreciated the resilience of his officers, the cooperation of border communities, and the support of sister security agencies in curbing smuggling activities.
He pointed out that the Command’s synergy with other security agencies reinforces collective determination to safeguard public health, ensure national security and protect the future of youths from the devastating effects of hard drugs.
