A dissemination/validation workshop on research on strategies to curb Sexual and Gender-Based Violence(SGBV) in tertiary Institutions in Nigeria holds on Tuesday August 6, 2024 at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The research is being carried out by a team of Dons from the University which has a former Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education(TASUED), Ijebu-Ode, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade as the Principal Investigator.
Prof Obilade, who is of the Department of Adult Education and Lifelong Learning at the University, heads a team of eight erudite researchers which also includes, Prof Olutoyin Mejiuni , also of Adult Education and Life-Long Learning Department as well as OAU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Development, Prof. Akanni Akinyemi.
Other co-researchers are
Dr Oluwatoyin O.Ilesanmi of Redeemers University, Ede , Dr. Lanre Ikuteyijo, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, OAU and Dr Bisola Adebayo of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
The rest are Dr Oyeyemi Bukola Babalola and Mr Tope Aborisade, both of Department of Psychology at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
According to a statement from the OAU Research Team working on the project, the dissemination/validation workshop holds at the African Centre for Excellence Annex on campus.
The Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire is expected to grace the workshop which is billed to start by 10am.
The research, according to the organizers, is sponsored by Tetfund.
The main objective of the research project was to examine the situation analysis of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence at different levels of Nigerian higher Institutions and develop strategies for zero SGBV tolerance on campuses.
According to them, the goal is to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students, especially the females who are often the victims.
