Pastor Gbenga Dosunmu of LordArise Global Christian Church, Grace Assembly, Abeokuta, Ogun State, espouses on the Grace for Determination to make marriage work at the Church’s monthly Single and Couples Seminar on Sunday January 26, 2026.
TEXT: Colossians 3 vs 13 -20, Ecclesiastes 4 vs 9 -12, Eph 4 vs 9 -12.

Determination can be simplified as a strong decision to keep going, persevere, be steadfast and refusing to give up but to be committed to make things work even in marriage. However, Christian marriage takes determination rooted in love, humility and Gods grace, not just feelings.
If you fail to be determined to make your marriage work, it means you resemble who?
Ananias & Sapphira Act 5 vs 1 — 11): Conspiracy to lie to the Holy Spirit. What was the consequence?
Elimelech & Naomi (Ruth 1 vs 1 -21): Abandoned Israel during famine to live in Moab. The consequence of their determined decision was really bitter. If I determine to make my marriage work who do I resemble?👇🏻
Priscilla and Aquila (Act 18) A united marriage , they served God together, taught together and stood side by side. Determination includes growing spiritually together, forgiving one another(Col 3: 13 -14).
Hosea & Gomer: Hosea is a good example of love that refuse to quit. God told Hosea to stay faithful to an unfaithful wife. It’s a story that shows covenant love — not excusing sin but choosing redemption and restoration.
Joseph &Mary: The early parents of Jesus: They supported each other despite social pressure and dangers from King Herod and responsibly raised the Saviour. Youths must be determined to resemble these entities below 👇:
Jacob (Gen 32:22 — 30) Refusing to let go
Ruth: Loyalty & commitment (Ruth 1,2,3) Wherever you go I will go, Your God will be my God.

In conclusion, determination in marriage does not mean staying silent , accepting harm or pretending everything is okay, if you are experiencing harm.
What to do?
a)Seek God’s intervention through wisdom and Godly counsel.
b)Keep praying even when you observe things are getting the other way round.
c)Press on, even when the past is messy(Philippians 3: 13 – 14)
