Emeritus Professor at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Olufunmilayo Ayoka Adebambo continues to bask in honour, splendour and magnificence, even close to a decade after her retirement from active service.
On Saturday at the annual Hallmarks of Labour Foundation event held in Lagos, Prof Adebambo stepped into the podium to receive the HLF-Christopher Kolade Award of Excellence for outstanding contributions to Food Security and Agricultural Innovation.

She was honoured alongside other eminent Nigerians among them a former Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mariam Katagum, Erstwhile Health Minister, Prof Isaac Adewole, Prof Olufemi Adelowo, Prof Adele Jinadu, Akinlolu Olujimi, Prof Babajide Alọ, Prof. Kalu Onuoha, Prof. Abdullahi and Dapo Olorunyomi, Publisher, Premium Times Newspaper.
Prof Adebambo is acclaimed as Nigeria’s first female professor of Animal Breeding and Genetics.

The distinguished scholar bagged the award for her outstanding contributions to Research, Innovation, and Value-Chain Development towards Food Security.
The distinguished honour was in recognition of her trailblazing work in agricultural research, particularly her pioneering innovations that have strengthened food security and transformed the agricultural landscape in Nigeria.
Her lifelong dedication to advancing science and innovation has earned her national and international acclaim, cementing her status as a Great Nigerian Role Model.photos

A major landmark of Prof Adebambo’s career included the development and patenting of the “FUNAAB Alpha” chickens, an improved indigenous poultry breed designed to boost productivity and sustainability in Nigeria’s poultry industry.
