One-time Commissioner for Health in Ogun state, Dr. Abisola Sodipo-Clark has debunked the allegation of non-challant attitude of Ogun state government to rescue operation for accident victims along Lagos -Ibadan dual carriage way.
Dr. Abisola Sodipo–Clark who was reacting to questions from journalis ts who had approached her in Abeokuta on the claim that Lagos state government is the only one that has such a policy in place said Lagos started after the Ogun government commenced.
The journalists were concerned about non availability of a rescue ambulance after the y fatal accident involving Anthony Joshua.
Dr. Abisola Sodipo-Clark who is a specialist in population medicine, commended the journalists for recalling the role she played in 1997 during the military era for the establishment of the Ogun state owned Gateway Accident Victims Emergency Service GAVES.
The medical practitioner who is presently a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress emphasised that the provision of fully equipped ambulances at the specially designed location by the Shagamu interchange was not to service only Lagos -Ibadan corridor but other roads within the area.
She stressed that her experience as a World Health Organisation and Amen Fellow and USAID staff influenced the initiative, which had saved many accident victims in the past.
Asked on whether this was after the take off of such a policy by the Lagos state government the soft-spoken medical practitioner stressed that a team from Lagos state government came to Ogun to study the system before replicating same.
Dr Sodipo-Clark expressed surprise that none of the ambulances got to the scene as early as possible.
Highlighting her area of specialisation, which is Population Medicine, the one-time Health Commissioner confirmed that it is under preventive medicine ,taking into consideration a lot of issues on man and well-being.
She is of the opinion that the unfortunate incident of the fatal accident should serve as a general challenge to the nation with the plan to have a more strategic approach to prevention and rescue operations.
The fatal accident on the Lagos -Ibadan dual carriage way, which involved former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua and two of his friends.
His two friends who lost their lives were buried in the UK .
